Camera inspection of the existing flue, since the liner is part of the installation and the flue condition governs it.

Do I need a new liner for an insert?
Almost always. Venting an insert into a large open masonry flue makes it draft poorly and glaze the flue with creosote, because the gases cool too quickly in an oversized space. A correctly sized, insulated liner is what makes an insert work.
How much wood will an insert save?
A certified insert is dramatically more efficient than an open fire, which loses most of its heat up the flue. Exactly how much depends on the appliance, the house and how you burn, and we would rather size it for your room than quote you a number from a brochure.
Can I install a wood stove where there is no fireplace?
Often yes, with a new flue system built for it. That is a bigger job than an insert and it needs a survey first to work out the route, the clearances and the hearth.
