Gas Fireplace Service FAQs
How often does a gas fireplace need servicing?
Once a year, the same as a wood system. Less soot does not mean less risk: the safety devices, the venting and the combustion quality all need checking, and none of those problems are visible from the sofa.
Can you convert my wood fireplace to gas?
In most cases yes, either with a gas log set in the existing firebox or with a sealed insert. The right option depends on the condition of the flue and what you want from it, and the flue usually needs to be inspected and often relined as part of the work.
Why does my gas fireplace smell when I first light it?
A faint smell for the first few minutes of the season is usually dust burning off. A persistent smell, or any smell of gas itself, is not normal. Turn it off and call us.
